Vibrato and letting the voice flow naturally..
Many people often ask me to teach them vibrato, believing their voices will sound so much better.

There are many different opinions about vibrato and just how beneficial it is to the singer.
If the vibrato occurs at the end of a note, just as the singer is coming off the breath (so to speak) then it can sound beautiful and evenly controlled and will certainly give more expression to the voice. I call it the “happiness” of the note.

Alternately, a vibrato that is produced solely by the throat muscles is manufactured sound.
If it starts at the very beginning of a note it can end up becoming quite agitating to the ear.
If a singer is unaware of the need for control of the vibrato, sometimes in later years it can give the voice the sound of 3 labored notes flowing as one.
The lower of the three notes becomes the dominant sound as the vibrato slows down, to the point where the singer appears to be singing flat.

I always maintain, if you breathe well, you will sing well!
If you want good controlled vibrato, just breathe correctly and let the voice sit nicely on the breath.
